What are Graphite & Carbon Felts?
Graphite and carbon felts are nonwoven fiber-based materials derived from PAN (polyacrylonitrile) or rayon precursors. These fibers undergo thermal treatment—carbonization around 800–1,000 °C and graphitization above 2,000 °C—to yield materials with exceptional thermal insulation, low ash content (<20 ppm), chemical resilience, and minimal outgassing
There are two main types of industrial graphite felt materials:
- Soft felts are flexible and easily shaped, ideal for wrapping, battery insulation, and dynamic systems.
- Rigid felts (short- or long-fiber) are pressed into boards or cylinders with greater structural integrity, commonly used in vacuum furnaces and high-precision insulation applications.
