Graphite & Carbon Materials for Heat Treatment
Heat treatment processes — including hardening, brazing, sintering, annealing, and carburizing — place extreme demands on every component inside the furnace. Materials must maintain mechanical strength and dimensional stability at sustained temperatures above 2,000 °C (3,632 °F), in vacuum or inert gas atmospheres, often across hundreds of repeated cycles.
Graphite and carbon-based materials are uniquely suited to these conditions. Their combination of high-temperature stability, low coefficient of thermal expansion, chemical inertness, and low thermal mass makes them the material of choice for hot zone construction. Max Graphite supplies a full range of graphite, carbon felt, and carbon-carbon (C-C) composite products for vacuum and inert gas furnaces — from standard replacement components to custom parts machined to your drawings.

Applications
- Heating elements — flat, meander, cylindrical, and rod-type configurations machined from fine-grain graphite
- Charging racks, trays, and workpiece fixtures — lightweight C-C composite systems designed to reduce thermal mass and maintain geometry across repeated cycles
- Thermal insulation — rigid felt panels, soft felt linings, and foil-faced composite insulation for hot zone containment
- Heat shields and radiation baffles — graphite and foil-based reflective barriers to improve temperature uniformity and reduce energy loss
- Structural fasteners — C-C composite bolts, nuts, studs, and threaded rods for assembling and securing furnace internals
- Hearth plates and base plates — isostatic graphite platforms for stable, contamination-free workpiece support
- Protective liners and release sheets — flexible graphite foil barriers that prevent outgassing and protect insulation from process contaminants
- Gas diffusion nozzles and distribution components
